Adenostoma fasciculatum

A common component of chaparral, chamise is evergreen and drought tolerant, a good choice as a low-maintenance shrub for neglectful or low-irrigation gardeners. Older specimens can become dry and flammable; not recommended for planting near house.

With Shooting Stars in San Rafael.

Sculpted by heavy deer browsing north of Mount Tamalpais.
