Native Shrubs

Arctostaphylos manzanita 'Dr. Hurd'  Doctor Hurd's Manzanita
Here's the one your mother warned you about: tall, dark, and handsome, a 6 to 12 ft. shrub to small tree with long crooked branches, smooth reddish bark, and large bright evergreen leaves. Highly seductive. The leaf extract of the Arctostaphylos species has anti-microbal qualities and the berries are edible.

Manzanita Wood  Manzanita Wood
Old weathered branches and burls are cleaned up by hand, sometimes sanded smooth. Normally you will only see these sand blasted down to the white wood. Root wood with a similar character was popular in ancient Asia for contemplation on a scholar's table.
